Nicolas, a 15-year-old teenager, was in third grade at the Adrienne-Bolland vocational high school in Poissy, in Yvelines. He committed suicide on Tuesday September 5, 2023, the day after the start of the school year. The young man killed himself by hanging after being harassed throughout the previous school year. For the first time on Monday September 25, his father, Fred Nebot, spoke during an interview with Mohamed Bouhafsi, journalist of the show C to you broadcast on France 5. Nicolas’ dad only understood his son’s distress after a “call from the head teacher” of the boy, in October 2022. He reported to him “that Nicolas was absent for three days”. The reason for this absenteeism was school bullying. “That’s where [Nicolas] told me that there were three students who were constantly bothering him”explained the father to our colleague. “Spitting, we constantly told him: ‘you’re not beautiful, no one likes you’”explained Fred Nebot, specifying that the three individuals also insulted the sister and mother of the 15-year-old boy.

“I want to be buried in Poissy”

A real ordeal that lasted an entire school year. “He didn’t want to go anymore [à l’école]we stole his pens”testified Nicolas’ father. The schoolboy had already done a suicide attempt “in February 2023”. While he used to follow Formula 1 and Paris Saint-Germain matches to watch his favorite footballer Killian Mbappé play, Nicolas completely changed his interests. He was informed about all the victims of harassment in France over the last two years, to the point of knowing their first names by heart. “He was no longer laughing, he had completely changed”remembered his dad in front of Mohamed Bouhafsi. He even told his mother in July 2023: ‘I want to be buried in Poissy’. lamented Fred Nebot. His mother, Béatrice Le Blay, was received by the Sunday newspaper for an interview published Sunday September 17. She felt that her son had “sacrificed” so that people “become aware that harassment is a serious evil for young people”. Monday September 25, 2023, the Minister of National Education, Gabriel Attal, brought together the rectors of the academies to hold an audit on the handling of cases of harassment.
