Expected May 26 after several postponements, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League seems to embrace the game-as-a-service model.

In any case, this is what we can understand after the leak of an image from a recent test version showing a menu of the next game from the talented British studio Rocksteady, almost 8 years later. Batman: Arkham Knight.

Marvel’s Avengersbut with DC antiheroes?

If, for the moment, we do not know with certainty the direction that the title will take, at most we know that we will embody Harley Quinn, King Shark, Captain Boomerang and Deadshot in a single or cooperative fight until at four in Metropolis, against superheroes manipulated by Brainiac.

5 months before its new release date, after many reports, a leaked image provides some answers as to the economic model adopted.

On it, we can indeed see elements commonly seen in games as a service. We find in particular the mention of a Battle Pass, usually present in free-to-play games, but which is slowly starting to arrive in paid games. There is also an in-game store and various currencies.

A leak not so terrible as it seems?

Once this image was put into circulation on the Web, our colleagues from Video Game Chronicles conducted their own investigation and interviewed sources close to the development of the game. If we are to believe the feedback gleaned, the situation is not as alarming as expected.

The Battle Pass system will however be present, but will be limited a priori to cosmetic elements. Still, you will have to buy the premium part and play the game for a long time to unlock the content. As for the currencies displayed on the image, it would actually be experience points specific to each character in order to acquire new skills.

Rocksteady’s idea is therefore to encourage players to stay on the game to evolve the four playable characters, and in the process evolve in the Battle Pass. Should we therefore fear a repeat of the fiasco that was Marvel’s Avengers on the side of Square Enix?

If all goes well, we will be able to judge on play next May 26 on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S and see what it really is. Especially since since the first announcement of the game in 2020, Rocksteady has been particularly discreet about the gameplay part of the title.
