Sulphurous TikTok? Maybe but everyone copies their UX

With the mania of tech giants to copy its neighbor, TikTok has therefore become the new Snapchat. Admittedly, the Chinese application is no longer in the odor of sanctity, but beyond the political, regulatory and addiction contingencies, TikTok has been able to impose an ergonomics that makes it possible to explode the attention span of users. And this virtue of vertical scrolling, everyone wants to take advantage of it.

Spotify – the global music streaming giant – has just presented a major overhaul of its mobile interface. And the service highlights a Tiktok-style presentation, with vertical scrolling. Gone is the “Stories” logic, these short formats which, democratized by Snapchat, have flooded Facebook, YouTube and other Instagrams.

At its Stream On conference, Spotify showed off a massive overhaul of its music streaming app. The application’s home page will now highlight all services, namely music, podcasts and audiobooks. But the real star of this conference is vertical scrolling, TikTok style. You will be able to navigate in this way on the application to discover new content. And as on TikTok, with each scroll, the user switches from one audio track to another.

Spotify and Reddit take on vertical scrolling

To do this, Spotify offers Spotify Clips, to allow “artists to add 30-second videos to their profile as well as album pages, to immerse their fans in a story while listening to a song. “. Of course, this transition from Spotify to the logic of social media exposure is going to require artists to conform to the format requirements of creators on social media.

Note that for Spotify users accustomed to the platform who are not fans of vertical scrolling, the interface still offers classic access to the library.

And this vertical scrolling logic is on its way to other web services. This is also the case for Reddit, which also has a vertical video stream. On Wednesday, Reddit announced that it too is jumping on this bandwagon. Reddit will soon have a Watch feed that will feature vertical videos.

The demo of the new feature shows that the feed will work similarly to TikTok’s, using swipes up to scroll through different videos.

TikTok on relaunch

A new reading stream will also be available soon, to optimize the way users navigate through textual content. Changes will also be made to the app interface to optimize the user experience with a focus on a cleaner and easier to navigate interface. One of these changes will be the ability for users to search article comments.

If you prefer to browse Reddit from your desktop computer, you can expect improvements. Reddit announces that “soon”, which seems to be the keyword for all updates, an updated web platform will be released which will include chat improvements, an updated video player, updates showcase, and much more.

TikTok for its part, well aware of having imposed a standard, has just announced a new feature: viewing videos under paywall. Creator fans can purchase a creator’s premium content and get access to up to 80 videos, with each video up to 20 minutes long. It is up to content creators to decide the price of their TikTok series, and access can be purchased through links in the videos or on a creator’s profile.
