After a year of pandemic, we are looking forward to the next vacation. But can we finally go abroad again in the summer? The federal government is raising hopes.

Of the Tourism Commissioner of the Federal Government, Thomas Bareiß, has raised hopes for a summer vacation by the sea: He believes that summer vacation abroad will be possible again despite the corona pandemic. "I hope that most Germans will be vaccinated by summer and will also be able to travel abroad," said the CDU member of the "Bild".

We can't keep people at home permanently

He sees no reason why vacationers, for example, could not travel to the Mediterranean islands. The prerequisite, however, is that the incidence values are on siteless than 35. Bareiß said the government shouldn't make traveling unnecessarily difficult: "We can't keep people at home permanently."

In southern Europe the incidence is partly below that in Germany

At least in the Germans' favorite country, the signs are currently pointing to relaxation. Since Sunday is Spain No longer viewed by the federal government as a "high-risk area", but only as a "normal risk area". This means that no negative test has to be presented when entering from Spain. However, you have to be tested 48 hours after entry. The obligation to a ten-day quarantine, from which you can only get rid of another test after five days.

Regions on Mallorca and La Gomera are considered corona-free

In the popular Balearic Islands, the seven-day incidence value is currently less than 50 infections per 100,000 inhabitants. On Mallorca the value in popular holiday regions such as Ses Salines, Sant Joan or Sant Llorenç is even zero. This means that the islands are currently less affected by the virus than Germany: Here the seven-day incidence value is currently 61.7.

On the Canaries the picture is mixed. While the numbers in Gran Canaria, Tenerife and Lanzarote are rising again, La Gomera is looking forward to an incidence of zero. The popular Valle Gran Rey has been corona-free since October 2020.

But since no one can know how the pandemic and especially the mutations will develop, one shouldn't let one's hopes for vacation fun by the sea soar too high.
