Sun protection for the lips is just as important as sun protection for the skin. We’ll tell you which lip balms you should use.

Why do I need sunscreen for my lips?
The sensitive skin on the lips lacks melanocytes. The skin does not tan and the risk of sunburn is particularly high. Lips become rough, flaky, or cracked. In the worst case, skin cancer can even develop. Sun protection for the lips is therefore very important, especially in summer (or on skiing holidays). Rely on lip care with a high sun protection factor (SPF) that reliably protects the area from UV rays.
Sun protection for the lips: you should pay attention to this
Unfortunately, not all lip care sticks with UV protection are recommended. The consumer magazine ÖKO-Test recommends avoiding lip balms with titanium dioxide, as this is potentially harmful if swallowed. Some chemical UV filters that are suspected of having hormonal effects should also be avoided. Paraffins, which can accumulate in the organs, are also critical.
Lip care with UV protection: test winner at ÖKO-Test
The consumer magazine ÖKO-Test tested a total of 17 lip care sticks with UV protection. Eight pens scored “good” or “very good”. Among the test winners are these lip balms from Annemarie Börlind, Frei Öl and Sebamed.
Annemarie Borlind Sun Care Lip Stick
The Annemarie Börlind lip balm cares for the lips with castor oil, jojoba oil and beeswax and provides reliable protection with SPF 20. The stick is free of aluminum salts, mineral oils, parabens, PEG and silicones and scored “very good” in the ÖKO test. The pen also receives very good reviews on Amazon and is praised for its pleasant consistency and delicate shine.
Free Oil Hydrolipid Hydro Lipstick
The Lip balm from Frei Öl protects the lips with SPF 50 and at the same time cares for them with argan oil, shea butter and panthenol. Hyaluron provides long-lasting moisture. The stick gives the lips a delicate shine and makes the skin feel pleasant. The care stick does not contain alcohol, dyes, preservatives, mineral oils, PEG/PEG derivatives and silicones and is rated “good” by ÖKO-Test.
Sebamed Protective Lip Care
Nourishes the lips with jojoba oil and rice oil: The Care stick from pharmacy brand sebamed cares for chapped, brittle lips soft and supple again. Vitamin E promotes regeneration. Made in Germany and without microplastics. In the ÖKO test, the pen scored “good” and also won over Amazon buyers with 4.4 out of 5 stars.
