Two women got stuck waist-deep in a moor on an Advent walk near Neubrandenburg. The 28 and 31-year-old women from Greifswald alerted the rescue workers on Sunday because they could not free themselves, as the police announced on Monday.

Officials were able to locate the two quickly. The walkers were stuck in the village of Friedland about 150 meters from the shore of a lake in an area that is almost completely enclosed by water. The fire brigade went to rescue with a rubber dinghy, a local fisherman also helped with the rescue operation with his boat. Two ambulances were also in use, as the temperature at that time was just above freezing point.

After about two and a half hours, the women were rescued from their predicament. They were treated with mild hypothermia by the emergency services. A total of 48 fire brigade workers were deployed.
