Sunscreen test 2020: test winners are less than 3 euros

The 2020 sunscreen test shows that good protection is also available at a low price. Stiftung Warentest examined sunscreen for children and adults – we give an overview.

Do you have to dig deep into your pocket for a good sunscreen? Wrong thought! When it comes to the skin (and the risk of skin cancer), we don't want to save. For safety's sake, we therefore often choose the expensive product, after all, it should also reliably protect us from radiation. That doesn't have to be the case, as current test results show. We give you an overview of which sunscreen you can buy with a clear conscience – for you and for children.

Stiftung Warentest has once again dedicated itself to the topic of sunscreens in time for summer. On the one hand, the test from 2019 was updated – and special attention was paid to children's products. Both came to similar conclusions: good sunscreen is available at a low price.

Adult sunscreen

Stiftung Warentest examined 19 different sunscreens from spray to cream last year. Eleven of them performed well, six products even received a "very good". The most important criterion: The tested sunscreens keep what they promise and protect against UVA and B radiation.

What is particularly pleasing is the price-performance ratio, to which Stiftung Warentest writes: "The price says nothing about the quality of the tested agents. The cheapest product in the test – already for 1.10 euros per 100 milliliters – provides reliable and reliable protection those for which 10 or even over 30 euros have to be paid. "

The test winners include:

  • "Sundance" sun milk from dm (SPF 30, 1.23 euros for 100ml)
  • Ultra Sensitive Sunscreen by "Ombre Sun" from Aldi (SPF 30, 3.90 euros for 100ml)
  • Sun milk "Elkos Sun" from Edeka (SPF 30, 1.44 euros for 100 ml)
  • Sun Spray Sensitive by Jean & Len (SPF 50, 5.20 euros for 100 ml)
  • "Sun Ozon" sun milk from Rossmann (SPF 50, 1.75 euros for 100 ml)
  • "Lavozon" sun milk from Müller (SPF 50, 1.73 euros for 100 ml)

Sun protection for children

A similar picture emerges for the children's sunscreens. Here, too, eleven out of 17 products performed well, four even very well. Almost all products protect against radiation, and of all things, the most expensive product fails with insufficient protection against UVA radiation. But there are numerous good and, above all, cheap alternatives: "The best children's sun creams and sprays are pleasantly cheap," Stiftung Warentest announced in the report.

The test winners of sunscreen products for children include:

  • "Cien Sun Kids" sun cream by Lidl (SPF 50+, 2.25 euros for 100 ml)
  • "Lavozon Kids Med" sun milk by Müller (SPF 50+, 3.95 euros for 100 ml)
  • "Ombra Easy Protect Kids Sun Spray" by Aldi (SPF 30, 1.99 euros for 100 ml)
  • "Sunozon Kids" sun spray by Rossmann (SPF 50, 2.40 euros for 100 ml)

So summer can come, right ?! As always, despite sun milk (for children and adults): in the heat, you should stay in the shade and cover your head. And with all sunscreens, less is not always the same – so you should not be stingy with cream and spray, but smear yourself thick. This way we avoid all sunscreen mistakes and can enjoy the summer temperatures without any bad consequences.
