Dwayne Johnson, who appeared on the red carpet at the 95th Academy Awards, spoke about the failure of Black Adam and his attempt to bring Henry Cavill back as Superman.
Present at the Oscars ceremony this Sunday, March 12, Dwayne Johnson did not escape a question about the failure of Black Adam and his attempt to bring Henry Cavill back as Superman in the DC universe.
“All I could do, and all we could do when we made Black Adam, was give our best, surround ourselves with the best people, and deliver the best movie we can.”he confided to the microphone of variety.

Dwayne Johnson then returned to the eviction of Henry Cavill from the DC universe, despite his appearance as Superman at the end of Black Adam. The Rock was very keen on the return of the British comedian in the role of Clark Kent in order to face him in a possible sequel.
“It’s a bit like having a professional football team: your quarterback [joueur clé d’une team] wins championships, your coach wins championships… but a new owner comes along and says, I don’t want that coach or that quarterback. I’ll choose someone else”explained The Rock with bitterness in his voice.
By using this football metaphor, the actor is of course referring to the new bosses of DC, James Gunn and Peter Safran, slipping them a small tackle in passing. The latter made the decision to relaunch the universe without Henry Cavill and it remains visibly across the throat of Dwayne Johnson.
The artist had the idea of creating his own vision of the DCU with Black Adam, fighting tooth and nail to bring Henry Cavill back as Superman.
A COMMERCIAL FAILURE FOR BLACK ADAM
Unfortunately, the feature film was a failure at the box office, bringing in only $392 million for a budget of $200 million. In addition, the arrival of James Gunn and Peter Safran at the head of the studio has completely upset Dwayne Johnson’s plans.
Will Black Adam and Superman end up facing each other one day on the big screen? It seems compromised at the moment.
As a reminder, last January, James Gunn and Peter Safran, the new architects of the DC universe, announced the first films and series that will be started.
On the program of Chapter 1, entitled Gods and Monsters, there are 5 films and 5 series: Superman Legacy, carried by a Clark Kent whose identity is still unknown, The Authority, The Brave and the Bold centered on Batman and Robin, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow and Swamp Thing.
While waiting for the new DCU films, Shazam 2 will be released on March 29 and The Flash will land on June 14, 2023.
