According to Elon Musk, Tesla’s future pickup, the Cybertruck would be amphibious. Or more exactly, it would resist water, so that it could cross a river, a lake, or even a sea.
Tesla’s Cybertruck is expected at the turn. According to the latest news, it is supposed to arrive as soon as 2023, just after the Tesla Semi and at the same time as the Tesla Roadster. The electric pickup from the Texas firm promises mountains and wonders, whether in autonomy, performance or habitability. But the American manufacturer would have forgotten to communicate around an element that could well make the difference against the competition.
The Tesla Cybertruck transforms into a boat
Indeed, on Twitter, Elon Musk, the boss of Tesla, posted two posts to say the least intriguing. According to him, the Cybertruck will be water resistant, enough to be used briefly as a boat, so it can cross rivers, lakes and seas that are not too rough“. Before adding that the pickup ” must be able to reach South Padre Island from Starbase ” in southern Texas, in ” crossing the channel which is several hundred meters in length.
It is not uncommon for off-road pickups and cars to be able to cross rivers. But these are mainly ford crossings, where the car still has its wheels in contact with the ground. Here, Elon Musk clearly implies that the wheels will no longer touch the ground, taking the example of the channel which sees boats pass with a significant draft, a depth of several meters.
This is therefore an additional argument for Tesla’s pickup against competition which has already been marketing its electric pickups for several months. This is the case of Ford with its F-150 Lightning or Rivian with its R1T. We simply hope, as the media rightly points out Numeramathat this “new” feature will not impact the Cybertruck’s release date.
Elon Musk gives news of his Cybertruck and they are not encouraging. The electric pickup should cost more than expected, while its technical sheet should evolve.
