The flight demonstrations each attract thousands to the Bernese Oberland. In a one-and-a-half hour show, the Air Force shows a broad audience its skills in an alpine environment.
In 2019, the flight demonstrations were canceled because cracks in the landing flaps of the F / A-18C / D Hornet had been discovered. In 2020, aerial shooting fell victim to the corona pandemic.
Originally, the event was designed for the military leadership, politicians and invited guests. Over time, more and more onlookers came. Today there are even temporary infrastructures such as toilet containers or catering stands.
The aviator shooting is the only publicly accessible air show that shoots sharply. Not only is the rock arena at the aviator firing range spectacular, but also the perspective of the spectators: the jets and helicopters zoom by practically at eye level.
