A Swiss pensioner (63) in Thailand said that he acted in self-defense. This week he had overpowered a burglar – and tied his hands and feet until the alarmed police arrived. When the uniformed men arrived, the burglar was dead, with lacerations and bruises on his face. The Swiss was arrested – and the case has now become more complicated. As thai media report, the alleged burglar is said to have been the lover of the Swiss man’s wife. At least that’s what the victim’s family claims.
On Friday, the uniformed men showed up at the Swiss man’s house with a search warrant. This after allegations of the victim’s family that the pensioner not only deliberately killed the 53-year-old farmer from the area. The dead man was the not-so-secret lover of the pensioner’s wife. Everyone in the village knew that – and the deceased had just made the equivalent of around 8,200 francs with a property deal. The money? Disappeared.
The house search did not reveal any further incriminating material against the Swiss. He is now at large again, on bail. According to the village chief, the Thai wife of the detainee protests that she does not know the victim at all and that she has never seen the man before. The police have promised a thorough investigation and clarification of the case. (kes)
