As usual, Synology is updating its ranges of SIN by small touches, this is the case for this DS1522+.
A little ahead of its back-to-school announcements, Synology therefore presents the new version of its 5-bay NAS designed for individuals or ” businesses of all sizes “. A version that can already be ordered, at a price of 774.95 euros.
A Ryzen R1600 instead of the Celeron J4125
Of course, the DS1522+ still relies on the in-house software, the DiskStation Manager now in version 7.1 to offer ” strong data management capabilities, as well as comprehensive file sharing, collaboration, and video monitoring features “.
Compared to the DS1520+ that we tested at the end of last year, we first of all retain the change of processor. An important change since Synology goes from Intel to AMD, from a Celeron J4125 (4 cores / 2.7 GHz) to a Ryzen R1600 (2 cores / 3.1 GHz) while the RAM is kept at the ‘identical (8 GB of DDR4).
Another major change is network support. Basically, we are a little disappointed to see that Synology remains faithful to 1 GbE via 4 RJ45 ports that can be aggregated to boost bandwidth. However, Synology has also split a simplified 10 GbE update solution: on the back of the NAS, a small hatch is dedicated to this.
The DS1522+ remains fully compatible with the DX517 expansion units which, with the changes already mentioned, makes Synology say that ” new 10GbE upgrade option and expandability for 10 additional drives make DS1522+ a cost-effective solution that can easily grow with any team “.
