Taken to hospitals – One dead and 6 seriously injured in frontal crash

A 49-year-old Hungarian is dead, six other people were seriously injured in a frontal collision on Saturday on the B 148 near Weng in Upper Austria. A minibus and a car collided with each other.

A 75-year-old from Kematen am Innbach was driving his van on the B 148 (Altheimer Straße) in the direction of Braunau. His 70-year-old wife was in the passenger seat. At the same time, a 51-year-old Hungarian steered his van in the opposite direction. His four Hungarian work colleagues – 42, 47, 49 and 55 years old – were also driving in the car. In the Mankham area, the Hungarian got into the oncoming lane for reasons unknown until now, leading to a head-on collision. After some of those involved were trapped in the vehicles, they had to be freed by the fire brigade using hydraulic rescue shears. A 49-year-old Hungarian suffered such serious injuries that he died at the scene of the accident. The other six participants were all injured to an undetermined or serious degree and taken to the hospitals in Braunau, Ried, Passau, Salzburg and Traunstein. A total of three rescue helicopters and seven rescue and emergency vehicles were deployed. Two emergency medical teams provided first aid to the injured.Cause still unclearThe B 148 was closed for about two hours when the accident was recorded. Another following vehicle was also damaged, but its driver was not injured. The cause of the accident has not yet been clarified.
