Takeover after bankruptcy – Heidi and Mozartkugel: Marriage into a large family

The rescue of Salzburg Schokolade is reminiscent of the summer of 2013 – the Niemetz bankruptcy and the rescue of the Swedish bomb. This time there was just no need to buy solidarity hamsters, the “real Mozartkugel” was enough. At the location in Grödig, production for Heidi Chocolat is expected soon. She is part of a large international family with a wide variety of different types of chocolate.

Magura, Rome, Fagras, Schwedenbomben, Heidi – the family members have international roots. They are all united by their core, chocolate. Soon there will be a new addition to the family: the “Echte Salzburger Mozartkugeln”, Bobby and the chocolate products from Salzburg Schokolade. Behind the international chocolate family is Julius Meinl V’s KEX Confectionery Group, based in Romania’s capital Bucharest. Its subsidiary, in turn, is Heidi Chocolat AG. In 2013, also just recently added to the chocolate empire, she bought the insolvent Swedish bombshell mother Niemetz. Rescued from bankruptcy, Schwedenbomben, Manja, and Swedy were made profitable within a year. Since the bankruptcy of Grödiger Salzburg Schokolade a good two weeks ago, little new has been known. The only thing is that a local bank is taking care of the short-term financing of the operation and the salaries of the 130 employees. And that the new owner Heidi Chocolat has already been able to come to an agreement with the trustee on the fundamentals. Heidi is also interested in the location and not just in the trademark rights. The giant is currently negotiating the license to the “Echte Salzburger Mozartkugel” with another giant: the American food company Mondelez.
