Tapie on Netflix: “I preferred that we not try it”, Laurent Lafitte explains why he did not meet Bernard Tapie

At the microphone of AlloCiné, Laurent Lafitte returned to his participation in the Netflix series “Tapie” in which he plays the title role. The resident of the Comédie-Française revealed to us why he did not want to meet Bernard Tapie…

Since September 13, Netflix subscribers can watch Tapie, the new series made in France of the platform. In this fiction, we follow the atypical and eventful journey of Bernard Tapie, a maligned public figure, sometimes boss of the Marseille Olympics, sometimes singer or even minister in the government of François Mitterrand.

An incredible transformation

Laurent Lafitte, one of the residents of the Comédie-Française, slips into the skin of this colorful protagonist. For AlloCiné, the actor also returned to this experience and the way he worked on his interpretation of Bernard Tapie.

During this interview, the actor also revealed to us whether or not he had requested a meeting with the real protagonist of this story (Bernard Tapie died on October 3, 2021) or one of his relatives, such as his wife Dominique Tapie.

Laurent Lafitte then answered us frankly: “I didn’t think about it but Tristan Séguéla [le réalisateur, dont le père Jacques Séguéla était proche de Bernard Tapie, ndlr] asked me some time ago: ‘Would you be interested if I tried to organize a lunch with Bernard Tapie?’… And in fact, I wasn’t sure if that would help me play.”

I would have loved to meet him now

He then elaborates:I wasn’t sure, especially because I think he was someone who had a great power of seduction… As an individual and a citizen, I would have been very interested in meeting him, assures Laurent Lafitte. But as an actor, I had the impression that it wasn’t necessarily going to benefit me so I preferred not to try it. I would have really liked to meet him now so we could talk about the series. That would have amused me!

A logical statement, therefore, especially when we know how Laurent Lafitte shaped this role: “I decided with Tristan that I was going to do my Bernard Tapie, which is a kind of infusion of everything that I was able to store as a spectator of his life. (…) I have not at all done work that would be a little more American-style, copy-and-paste.“An impressive performance to discover now on Netflix.
