Tapie on Netflix: “Our intentions were good”, Laurent Lafitte reacts to protests from Bernard Tapie’s family

Netflix has released “Tapie”, its new French series in which Laurent Lafitte plays Bernard Tapie. Today, the deceased’s relatives strongly criticize this project and the actor reacts to their opposition on AlloCiné’s microphone.

Since September 13, 2023, Netflix has been offering its users the opportunity to watch its new mini-series made in France entitled Tapie. As its name suggests, this fiction inspired by real events according to Tristan Séguéla (one of the co-creators with Olivier Demangel) traces the life and work of Bernard Tapie.

Laurent Lafitte as Bernard Tapie

It was the actor and resident of the Comédie-Française Laurent Lafitte who was chosen to embody this strong and maligned public figure. Speaking to AlloCiné, the actor revealed that he did not want to meet the real hero of this story, who had already been firmly opposed to this major project.

With us, the one who plays Joséphine Japy, Fabrice Luchini and Camille Chamoux in Tapie also commented on the reaction of Bernard Tapie’s family to the series. Indeed, the latter also spoke out against this production.

Laurent Lafitte declares regarding this strong opposition: “This does not upset me because I am sure of our intentions, precisely. I know they are good. It’s only a matter of time and I hope that when they have seen the series, they will be a little more at peace.

“Our intentions are good”

“But at the same time, it’s normal, puts Tapie’s headline act into perspective. It’s true that it’s also a bit of their life that we’re telling, especially Dominique’s. [Tapie, la veuve de Bernard Tapie, ndlr]. You have the impression of being dispossessed of your own life but that’s what being a public figure is…”

And then, I believe that one of Bernard Tapie’s sons has a biopic project on the life of his father… So they perhaps had the impression that our series was short-circuiting that project. I don’t know what exactly their real fears are…

What I know in any case is that our intentions were good and I don’t think at all that the series is a fault. We are not at all in caricature or defamation“, assures Laurent Lafitte. What’s enough to calm people’s minds? Nothing is less certain… Despite the controversy, the seven episodes that make up Tapie remain visible on Netflix.
