Faced with the very high price of nursing homes, there is some financial aid available to reduce the bill. We’ll tell you which ones.
Despite the poor reputation of nursing homes linked to numerous scandals, the price is very high. In fact, the average cost of accommodation in a nursing home is 2,000 euros per month in the regions. The price soars to 2,813 euros per month in Ile-de-France. As part of the future Old Age law, the government intends to put in place financial aid to help retirees.
The cost of a stay in a nursing home includes costs related to accommodation but also those relating to the person’s state of dependence. For this second point, the government intends to provide assistance to finance the loss of autonomy. It is the APAto know personalized autonomy allowance. Unlike much aid, APA is not subject to income conditions. In other words, everyone can benefit from it.

Tax reduction, property tax
The amount of APA is calculated according to the degree of dependence, which includes 6 levels (GIR). To be entitled to APA you must therefore be located between level 1 and 4. Indeed, levels 5 and 6 concern people who still have satisfactory autonomy. This degree of dependence is assessed during the first weeks at the nursing home, by a doctor.
Please note that people in nursing homes can benefit from 25% tax reduction, for dependency and accommodation costs. The ceiling is 10,000 euros of expenses per year. The maximum amount of tax reduction is 2,500 euros per person. And if the amount of tax reduction is greater than the amount of tax, then the tax is reduced to 0 euros. Another tax advantage: people residing in nursing homes can see their property tax will decrease if they have kept their main residence.

ASH and APL for residents in nursing homes
Furthermore, for people who cannot pay the nursing home bill in full, there is social assistance for accommodation (ASH). “The Departmental Council pays the difference between the amount of the invoice and the person’s contribution”, explains the government on the site for-people-aged.gouv.fr.
But be careful, this is an advance which can be owed by the beneficiaries at the time of inheritance. THE PL (personalized housing assistance) can also be obtained provided that the nursing home is APL approved and that it is the applicant’s main residence for at least 8 months per year.
