Screens atypical to say the least and an entry into the world of AI. This is to summarize what TCL presented during a conference given in Wuhan, China, during the Global Display Tech-ecosystem 2023 event.

4K OLED monitor with a dome-shaped design, 27-inch 8K autostereoscopic display for glasses-free 3D viewing, 57-inch curved 8K OLED and ultra-wide 8K MiniLED display… TCL and its subsidiary CSOT (China Star Optoelectronics Technology Co. ) pulled out all the stops during this DTC 2023 conference by presenting original displays, some of which are none other than world firsts.

X-Intelligence: the first AI model in display

The announcement of what TCL considers to be “the world’s first AI model in the display industry” shows the manufacturer’s ambitions in terms of innovation. Although we currently have little information on this surprising announcement, X-Intelligence would have been specially designed for the display industry and is intended to be particularly ambitious with capabilities that would exceed those of GPT-4 in terms of natural language processing and reasoning skills.

Its launch could herald the production of much more interactive standalone screens, which would meet specific industry needs and should “improve production efficiency and strengthen the innovation capabilities of companies in the display sector” according to TCL.

IJP RGB OLED on curved monitor (television?)

Built around OLED RGB technology with a panel manufactured with the inkjet process (IJP), this screen, which we do not really know if it is a monitor or a curved television, is armed an 8K UHD definition (7680 x 4320 pixels) with a refresh rate of 120 Hz. With its curvature radius of 1,800R, it would seem more likely to us that this screen is intended for gaming.

IJP (Ink-Jet Printed) OLED technology would have many advantages over OLED panels produced by Samsung Display and LG Display. Made up of three sub-pixels (green, blue and red), these panels would offer coverage of more than 90% of the Rec color space. 2020, a light peak reaching 2,000 nits, or even a reduction in blue light emissions of around 50%. Above all, this manufacturing process could quickly lower production costs. Finally, TCL presented a second IJP OLED screen, it is a 14-inch 2.8K laptop screen with a refresh rate of 120 Hz too.

IJP RGB OLED panels could quickly arrive on the market, by 2025, for the production of televisions on diagonals of 55, 65 and 75 inches initially. CES 2024 will undoubtedly tell us more about TCL’s projects and the production capacities of its subsidiary CSOT.

Monitors for (very) demanding gamers

Alongside these announcements which demonstrate TCL CSOT’s vision for the future, the manufacturer presented several screens whose format, resolution and details to our knowledge leave no doubt about their scope. Two monitors thus attract attention, first with a 31-inch 4K and 120 Hz dome-shaped model, whose curvature is horizontal, but also vertical. In other words, a screen that promises to be perfect for Microsoft Flight Simulator or any other game where immersion is king.

Already presented at AWE 2023 (Appliance & Electronics World Expo) in Shanghai, TCL’s ultra-wide screen is back, but this time equipped with MiniLED backlighting. This ready-made competitor to the Samsung Odyssey Neo G9 is displayed with a curvature of 1000R on a huge diagonal of 57 inches. The screen displays an 8K DUHD definition (7680 x 2160 pixels), with a 32:9 image format and pushes its refresh rate up to 240 Hz. It also has more than 11,000 backlight zones.

Finally, TCL presented a 27-inch 8K screen that is unusual to say the least since it is a monitor capable of switching from 2D to 3D (without glasses) and equipped with eye tracking technology thanks to a camera connected. TCL is therefore betting on 3D without glasses, in the age of VR, where many players have got their feet wet with a technology for which the general public has already shown a certain disinterest. To be continued!

See you at CES 2024 to find out more!
