Two men convicted in connection with the Nice terrorist attack refuse to accept their sentences.
The anti-terror prosecutor’s office in Paris announced that they are taking the verdict to the next instance.
A court in Paris had sentenced the two to 18 years in prison about two weeks ago.
According to media reports, the six other convicts do not want to appeal.
On July 14, 2016, the French national holiday, the Tunisian Mohamed Lahouaiej Bouhlel drove a heavy truck into a crowd on the Promenade des Anglais in Nice. He also shot people.
Ultimately, there were 86 fatalities and more than 200 people were injured. The perpetrator was shot dead after the crime. Among the victims in Nice were two students and a teacher from Berlin.
No IS attack – but jihadism sympathizers
The terrorist militia Islamic State (IS) claimed responsibility for the attack. According to the court, this alleged confession was opportunistic despite the perpetrator’s interest in jihadism. A connection to a terrorist organization was not found, but a clear inspiration from jihadism.
