Tesla’s Berlin factory was sabotaged

An arson attack was started on an electricity pylon located near Tesla’s German Gigafactory. Production had to be stopped and employees sent home. The act is claimed by an extremist group opposed to the expansion of the Tesla factory.

The Tesla Gigafactory in Berlin was deliberately targeted by an act of sabotage claimed by a small far-left group. This Tuesday, March 5, 2024, firefighters were called to intervene on a fire started at an electrical pylon, located near the Tesla industrial site, as reported byAFP. The fire was brought under control, but the damage led to a general power outage throughout the area, including homes in villages neighboring the company.

Due to a lack of power, production at the Tesla factory had to be suspended and the 12,000 employees were sent home for an indefinite period. Tesla criticizes X (ex-Twitter) a ” irresponsible attack » and estimates that the damage could cost several million euros.

An act of sabotage against Tesla claimed

The police immediately opened an investigation into the arson, but the search for the culprits will not take long. According to AFP, the act was claimed by far-left activists from a German group called “Vulkangruppe”, through a press release published on their website.

The activists made the following statement: “ With our sabotage, we set ourselves the goal of achieving the largest possible blackout of the Gigafactory. » However, their action will also penalize those living near the factory for an indefinite period.

This group opposes the Tesla factory expansion project, which it considers bad for its environmental impact and for the area’s water resources. However, the group that committed this attack on the power lines should not be confused with another group of activists, who installed a ZAD in the trees around the factory to also demonstrate against the expansion of the plant. Tesla factory. Even though the two operations are concurrent, there are no direct links between the “Stop Tesla” activist group and the wrongdoing of the Vulkangruppe (Volcano group).

A strong reaction from Elon Musk

Political reactions are almost unanimous in condemning the methods used by this far-left activist group. Apparently, the situation particularly annoyed Elon Musk who published early this afternoon the following message on X: “ They are either the stupidest eco-terrorists on the planet or the puppets of those with bad environmental goals. Stopping production of electric vehicles, rather than fossil fuel vehicles, is extremely stupid. »

In response to this message, the Tesla Manufacturing account posted a more complete answer on regarding the situation. The boss of Tesla must be starting to get impatient to see the problems piling up around the Berlin Gigafactory. It had to interrupt its production for 2 weeks due to supply problems. This is starting to cause a lot of delays.

The problems keep coming for Tesla and its Berlin Gigafactory. To make sure you don’t miss anything on these social issues linked to electric mobility, subscribe to our weekly Watt Else newsletter.
