What would you do if the love of your life suffered from a serious health problem and you were able to help him? Probably all it takes, without thinking twice. That’s exactly what 30-year-old Colleen Le did when she had to choose between watching her boyfriend die or saving his life. It was five years ago. The boy who makes her heart beat, whose anonymity she preserves, has suffered from kidney failure since the age of 17. He lives on dialysis and his kidneys only work at 5% of their capacity.
Listening only to her heart, the then 25-year-old young woman decided to be tested to find out if she was a compatible donor. “I made this decision because I didn’t want to see him die,” she says. When the results fall, she is delighted: she can give one of her kidneys to her darling. The operation is scheduled and goes well for both of them. “I was exhausted, but so happy. Giving him this gift made me love him even more than I had before the surgery,” Colleen recalls.

The two lovebirds are quietly resuming the course of their life as a couple. Seven months after the operation, the transplant patient announces to his sweetheart that he is going to Las Vegas for a few days for the bachelor party of one of his friends. Colleen is happy for him. He can live like everyone else again. She trusts him completely. But a few days after returning from a trip, the young man confesses to her that, there, he cheated on her. The band of friends would not have resisted any temptation.
“A lot of arguments later, I finally forgave him and gave him a second chance”, explains the young scorned lover. But three months later, on the phone, the boor tells her that he is leaving her. “But I donated a kidney for you!”, she throws at him bewildered. His answer ? “If we are made for each other, we will find each other. And then, you know, for your kidney, you did it for yourself, for your good conscience and for your image.” Decidedly inelegant, the young man then blocked her on all her social networks and never gave any news.
