Tests, mask requirement, QR codes: you have to pay attention to this when traveling to Greece

Frankfurt Airport is as if swept empty – an unusual image that vacationers are currently seeing. Only a small number of those willing to travel meander towards Hall C. From there the plane goes to Chania-Crete.

But before you can get on the plane, you have to pay attention to a few things and organize them beforehand. If you fly to Greece, you need at least two other documents, in addition to your boarding pass and ID.

A negative corona test is required

Before entering Greece, each person must present a negative PCR test. This must not be older than 72 hours. While this is free in Bavaria, you have to pay for it in other federal states. In Hesse, the test costs 39.30 euros. However, it is important that this is in English and that the ID number is on it. You can enter Greece via the airports of Athens, Chania, Heraklion, Corfu, Kos, Mykonos, Rhodes, Santorini or Thessaloniki.

You have to be prepared for the fact that all documents are checked more often than usual. The negative PCR test is requested for the first time at check-in. You have to present it again when you get on the plane, just like when you arrive at the Greek airport. So if you plan to travel to Greece, it is advisable to either put the documents in a folder in printed form or to know where you can access them digitally on your smartphone.

Anyone who has recovered or is already fully vaccinated can enter Germany without a negative PCR test. It is important that you can present all the important documents that confirm this. Whether in printed or digital form is irrelevant here too.

Fill out the “Passenger Locator Form” before entering the country

Up to 24 hours before entering Greece, a so-called “Passenger Locator Form” (PLF) can be filled out online. The PLF document certifies when you will arrive in Greece, where you will stay during your trip and with whom you will be traveling. It is important that you can give your accommodation with an address. Unfortunately, this is a little more difficult for spontaneous hostel vacationers.

Inspection is a matter of trust. ATU checks according to the manufacturer’s instructions. The manufacturer’s guarantee is retained in full!

This document is checked at check-in. You will then have to present it a second time upon arrival at the Greek airport. The QR code is simply scanned here and then it goes to the baggage carousel.

These are the restrictions in the country

Although many accommodations are not yet open, you can already book many hotels on the beautiful islands of Greece online. Renting a car is also still not a problem. The mood in the cities is getting better and better, people are returning to normal touristy – and that without overcrowded beaches.

Tourist activities can still be easily booked and carried out. There are many open restaurants and bars on the Greek island of Crete. But boat tours, dives and hiking tours can also be easily booked on site. Great importance is attached to the mask requirement. Tourists should always carry a mask with them because while you don’t always have to wear it outside, there are places and situations where you should wear a mask. In addition, a maximum of six people can sit at one table in restaurants.

Traveling in Corona times – this is the new normal

Even if holidays in Greece are allowed again, normality is still a long way off. The pandemic is not over yet and as a tourist you should stick to the rules that the country imposes. Even if it is sometimes not easy to keep track of things, it is important for restaurateurs, hotel owners and guides that tourism picks up speed. You should be respectful of the difficult situation. The new normal is tests, mask requirements and QR codes.
