(CercleFinance.com) – Thales has announced a new multi-year contract for the new generation of US passport electronic covers with the United States Government Printing Office (GPO).
Since 2005, Thales has shipped over 127 million US ePassport covers.
The GPO manufactures the US passport, including many of its components, for the Department of State, which then customizes the document for US travelers, government officials, and diplomats.
“The integration of electronic security technology into passport cover materials allows for a high level of security because electronically stored data is protected against alteration or tampering,” the group says.
“Providing greater identity security to citizens, businesses and governments is a core mission of Thales,” said Tony Lo Gross, executive vice president of Thales Identity and Biometric Solutions in North America.
