Since last week, the Bing application has risen sharply in the ranking of the most downloaded applications on the App Store at the moment. The reason: the upcoming integration of ChatGPT into Microsoft’s search engine, but also the firm’s practices that promote downloads.
Last week, Microsoft confirmed the arrival of ChatGPT in Bing and Edge, with the promise of reliable artificial intelligence and above all that cites its sources. To be able to use it, you have to register on a waiting list to test this new Bing. On Twitter, we note that the first Internet users have access to this new feature and are carrying out initial tests. All this has made Microsoft’s Edge and Bing apps move up the rankings of the most downloaded apps from the App Store, as noted TechCrunch.

The media relies on data from the company data.ai and writes that “on the US App Store, the Bing app rose to twelfth place among all free iPhone apps, while Microsoft’s Edge browser is now the third utility app.According to estimates from data.ai, the Bing application has been downloaded 10 times more than usual globally.
In the graph published by the English-language media, we see that before the announcement, Bing was 160 ᵉ in the American ranking of productivity applications, before arriving at third place in a few days. All categories combined, it did not even appear in the ranking before.

However, this sudden resurgence of interest in Bing is not simply due to the arrival of ChatGPT in Bing. Quite simply because the AI will (at least at first) not be available on the mobile version of the search engine. Nor is it because users realized that Bing was better than Google, when the latter drew Bard to counter Microsoft.
In fact, the new Bing waiting list includes methods to earn seats. This means using Microsoft services on your PC, but also and above all downloading Bing to your smartphone. What strongly artificially increase the number of downloads of the application.
