Amazon has reportedly set the launch date for advertisements in Prime Video, its streaming platform. Everyone will be entitled to them and you will have to pay extra to remove them.
While the streaming platforms are conquered by the formulas with advertisements followed by a increase in their prices, one of them still resists the invader: Amazon Prime Video. Unfortunately, there won’t be a festive banquet at the end of the story this time. Like its competitors, the service will introduce advertisements into its programs. Netflix was the first to try it with a special plan at €5.99/month. Shortly after, Disney+ did the same thing with an identical price.
It is clear that offering a subscription with advertisements increases the number of subscribers. So it makes sense that everyone goes through it. Moreover, Amazon is experimenting in early 2023 with a Prime Video Lite plan available in India. We imagined that Jeff Bezos’ former company would then deploy it in the rest of the world, but no. The strategy is quite different: put advertising by default and ask for extra money to remove it. It’s quite logical basically, Prime Video is included in Amazon Prime and its unique price.
Advertising would arrive in all Prime Video subscriptions in 2024
The latest information spoke of an arrival in early 2024. The date is becoming clearer and according to NPA Conseil, a firm specializing in the media and digital services sector, Amazon would launch the advertising in Prime Video subscriptions on April 10, 2024 In France. Remember that the stated objective is to “continue to invest in compelling content and continue to increase this investment”. This is exactly how every price increase on all streaming platforms is justified.
Contrary to Netflix and Disney+, there will be no formula with separate ads. The advertisements will be integrated into the current subscription and, if you wish to get rid of them, you will have to pay $2.99 more per month. We don’t know if this will translate to €2.99, but assuming it does, this would bring the monthly price of Amazon Prime to €9.98/month. It is possible for a more advantageous annual rate to be offered.
