the announcement we’ve all been waiting for won’t arrive anytime soon

While Nintendo participated in Gamescom last year to present the Switch 2 in secret to developers, this will not be the case this year.

The Japanese giant has in fact officially announced that it will not participate in the 2024 edition of the major European show. A missed opportunity for European fans to physically learn more about the long-awaited Nintendo Switch 2.

Yet a regular at Gamescom, Nintendo has obviously decided after careful consideration not to participate this year. The Japanese giant therefore does not believe it has sufficiently significant announcements to make to make the trip to Cologne. However, the opportunity would have been ideal for a proper presentation of the Nintendo Switch 2.

Unfortunately, these are not the firm’s plans. Remember that this highly anticipated console should a priori be released during the first quarter of 2025. An announcement this summer would therefore appear too early for the manufacturer. The Nintendo Switch 2 and Gamescom, however, share an important point in common. It was in fact during last year’s edition that it was presented in secret to the developers. They were therefore able to have a first-hand glimpse of his abilities, visibly clearly superior to his illustrious elder.

A console that really looks up to date?

According to persistent rumors, the future console should be seriously updated on several points. Thanks to an NVIDIA chip, it would include DLSS, the famous upscale technology via machine-learning. This would open great doors for the console, potentially allowing it to display games smoothly and up to 4K.

To a certain extent, it could also integrate ray tracing. That said, you shouldn’t expect the same results as on an Xbox Series X or a PS5 Pro (which should be presented this summer). Such technical capabilities should still greatly change the lives of Nintendo fans. However, the Japanese giant still needs to finally decide to present this famous Nintendo Switch 2. This will in any case not happen during Gamescom, to the great dismay of European fans who would certainly have liked to have the satisfaction of ‘such exclusivity.
