At the end of last year, Microsoft released Windows 11, the main update to its PC operating system since 2015. However, when the update was launched last October, there was a lot of criticism.
Logically, Microsoft will therefore gradually update its operating system to not only provide the necessary fixes, but also to optimize it and add more functionalities.
One of the most striking new features of Windows 11 is the new Widgets pane, which can be activated directly from the taskbar. A component with great potential, but which is still quite limited. It must be said that it is impossible for users to add the widgets they want and the only windows offered are those developed directly by Microsoft. It is therefore impossible to use it to display photos shared on Instagram or events via a Google Calendar widget.
Third-party widgets planned for Windows 11 22H2
It seems, however, that Microsoft is open to opening this panel to third-party developers. As the Windows Latest site reports, Microsoft could open its panel to third-party widgets as of the next major update of its OS, Windows 11 version 22H2, scheduled for the second half of the year. “We have previously heard from reliable sources that Microsoft is planning to add support for third-party widgets. Finally, third-party widgets will be integrated into Windows 11 version 22H2 according to documents that we have been able to consult. This support will allow you to customize the widget panel according to your preferences ”, indicates the specialized site.
It must be said that Microsoft is no stranger to widgets. Even before they appeared on iOS or even Android, Windows Vista already allowed third-party widgets to be installed right on the desktop. A feature that was eventually removed with Windows 8 by replacing this feature with the tile system.
