The Beauval Zoo panda, Yuan Meng, leaving for China

“He just has to keep living his good life. It is inevitably a moment of emotion, but all our animals born here are brought to leave one day. We’re used to that.”said Tuesday, July 25, the director of the ZooParc de Beauval (in Saint-Aignan, Loir-et-Cher), that Yuan Meng left in the drizzle to join China.

In his white truck, escorted by bikers and police vehicles, the first panda born in France in 2017 headed for Roissy airport on Tuesday. A plane was waiting for him heading for Chengdu (China) and the giant panda research and breeding center.

Yuan Meng was originally supposed to join China at the age of 3 or 4, but his stay was extended due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The young male will thus free up space for his younger sisters, the twins Huanlili and Yuandudu, born on August 2, 2021. ” Everything went well. He said goodbye to his parents and [à] his sisters, with a twinge in the hearts of veterinarians and healers”explains Rodolphe Delord, the director of the zoo.
