The best cordless hedge trimmers in the test center

Hedge trimmers are part of the basic equipment for many homeowners. We show you the best devices with battery in the test. However, you should be careful, because there are clear legal regulations – anyone who ignores them must expect a high fine.

Our partner “Das Haus” has tested numerous cordless hedge trimmers. We show you the most exciting models clearly summarized in the following table. You can find more information about the individual products and the competitive environment in our complete buying guide.

If, on the other hand, you are looking for a classic hedge trimmer operated by muscle power, you should take a look at our second purchase guide on the subject.

Below the table we also explain what you should definitely pay attention to when trimming the hedge – and what penalties there are if you trim your hedge between March and September.

Only allowed between October and February

Hedges should not be trimmed all year round. In fact, that’s just it allowed between October and February. Anyone who cuts off a hedge or puts it “on the stick” between March 1st and September 30th must expect a high fine. Depending on the federal state, this can be up to 100,000 euros.

Exceptions include:

  • professional care to preserve the stock
  • professional removal of twigs and branches (max. circumference of 15 centimeters) in special circumstances, for example to prevent shading
  • a maintenance of the hedge that towers over the neighboring property

If you want to cut the hedge between March 1st and September 30th, you should read the current regulations carefully again.

Other types of hedge trimmers

In addition to cordless hedge trimmers and models that can be operated manually, there are also the following variants:

  • electric hedge trimmers: In principle, this hedge trimmer works like a cordless hedge trimmer – except that it draws its power from a cable. However, the cable is rather impractical and also a source of accidents.
  • Petrol hedge trimmers: These hedge trimmers are significantly more powerful, but also more expensive and very noisy. Added to this are the exhaust gases and the relatively high maintenance effort. These hedge trimmers are therefore less suitable for private use.
