As Homelander, Butcher and company prepare to make their return in season 4 of The Boys, scheduled for sometime in 2024 on Prime Video, Amazon has already launched the production of a fifth season, although it has not yet been made official. The icing on the cake: it will (already) begin filming in the coming weeks.

Return to Toronto

As we can read on productionlist.com, a site which lists the films and series currently in pre-production or filming, this season 5 of The Boys must launch its cameras on April 8 in Toronto, Canada. Filming should last four months and end on August 22, 2024.

Series creator Eric Kripke is returning to production, as are Evan Goldberg and original comic book writer Garth Ennis. No precise details are given on the plot, apart from a terse synopsis: “A group of vigilantes decides to eliminate corrupt superheroes who abuse their superpowers.”

If it’s not a surprise that Prime Video’s star series is renewed for a fifth season, we may be surprised to learn it like this, without official communication from Amazon. Because for now, only the next season 4 of eight episodes is confirmed.

This is scheduled for 2024, but it does not yet have a precise release date. Its plot is still shrouded in mystery, but we know that it will take place a month after the events of the series Gen Vand that the anti-super virus presented in the spin-off will play an important role in this fourth season.

His story will also take place in the middle of an election period, to accompany that planned in the real world in the United States. A tense climate which will pit pro and anti-superheroes against each other, while Victoria Neuman is in the running to become vice-president of the United States.

Creator Eric Kripke further confirmed that the events of season 4 would themselves lead to the second season of Gen V. This could therefore itself lead to the fifth season, or to the Mexican spin-off also in the pipeline. In short, the world of dirty superheroes is not about to end.
