The Citroën AMI returns to the colors of the legendary 2 CV Charleston from 1981

Massimo Biancone, renowned Italian designer, has decided to pay homage to the legendary 2 CV Charleston via a new version of the Citroën AMI. To do this, the creator extensively modified the cart without a license, notably by modifying the colors, the upholstery and even the equipment.

Since its launch in 2020, the Citroën AMI, the chevron brand’s license-free electric cart, has had several variations. For example, we were entitled to the AMI Tonic in 2022, a stylized high-end version equipped with additional equipment such as a smartphone clip, storage bins, door nets and even floor mats.

In May 2023, the Citroën AMI made its return in a limited Buggy version intended for adventurers. Offered in only 1,000 copies, this iteration quickly found buyers thanks to its particular look and specific equipment (sunroof, integrated Bluetooth Ears Boom speaker, etc.). Lately, Citroën has also lifted the veil on the My AMI Popa sporty version equipped with a rear spoiler, front and rear bumper reinforcement and 4 wheel covers.

And on January 31, 2024, it is the turn of the jack-of-all-trades Italian designer Massimo Biancone to take an interest in the small French quadricycle. In fact, the creator has just presented a reinterpretation of the MAIvery strongly inspired by the 2 HP Charleston. As a reminder, this model, well known to fans of the “Deudeuche”, was marketed for the first time in 1980. It stood out above all by its two-tone black and red bodywork and its upholstery trimmed in black and white houndstooth jersey.

Unsurprisingly, this AMI obviously uses the color code of the 2 CV Charleston by combining Delage red for the central part and black for the wheel arches and the roof. The rims also turn black. In the passenger compartment, we find elegant upholstery, with black and white houndstooth fabric mixed with black leather. Note that the fabric also covers the door panels, while the leather covers the handbrake and the steering wheel.

Concerning the steering wheel elsewhere, it sports a single branch as was the case on the 2 CV and other iconic Citroën models. Thought of as a high-end vision of the AMI, we inevitably find new equipment such as a sunroof, an interior rear-view mirror (an element absent from the original AMI) and an umbrella storage installed behind the driver’s seat. Please note that this AMI “Charleston” is not offered for sale by Citroën, but directly on the Biancone store.

On the other hand, if the asking price of €11,000 don’t scare you, it is possible to place an order on the designer’s website. Quantities will be extremely limited, with the designer having announced a production of only 32 copies.
