In a press release published this Friday, July 1, the CLCV indicates that it is mobilizing against greenwashing in order to protect consumers from claims that could mislead them.

Is green electricity really green?

In its crusade against greenwashing, the CLCV notably condemns green electricity offers, arguing that consumers think that this electricity comes from renewable energies only and therefore without fossil or nuclear energy. However, the operators of these specific offers sell the same electricity as the others.

For the association, the only difference lies in the purchase of guaranteed certificates of origin in order to compensate for the non-renewable share of electricity consumed by their customers. The CLCV is therefore purely and simply requesting the end of these guarantees of origin that mislead consumers.

The CLCV also insists on the fact that it is necessary to return to the fundamentals of consumer law to make the information provided reliable consumers about the environmental impact of a product or service and better protect them against misleading marketing practices based on environmental claims.
