The collective catering group Sodexo announces that it has sold its activities in Russia

The collective catering group Sodexo announced on Wednesday that it would cease its activities in Russia, which represented less than 1% of its turnover, and said it had “strongly mobilizedto support Ukrainians forced to take refuge in neighboring countries since the beginning of the Russian invasion.

The company said in a statement that it “handed over control of its operations in the country to the local management team which continues operations in Russia through an independent structure and brand”. “From the beginning of the conflict, Sodexo has been strongly mobilized to ensure continuity of service for its customers, guarantee the safety of its employees and provide support to refugees in countries bordering Ukraine”continues the company.

The Sodexo group notably launched with Stop Hunger “a global employee giving initiative”with “the support of (its) long-standing partner, the World Food Program (WFP) of the United Nations”. “The amounts raised are matched by Sodexo and used to provide aid to refugees in the region and to people affected by the conflict in Ukraine”he concluded.

Present in 56 countries, Sodexo, which has 412,000 employees, provides services ranging from catering, reception, maintenance and cleaning, to technical maintenance of installations and concierge services. After being badly affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, it generated a net profit of 337 million euros in the first half of its 2021/2022 financial year, ten times higher than it was a year earlier, thanks to a marked recovery in its activities.
