the Colombes swimming pool remains “the preferred option” to host synchronized swimming

Will the Colombes swimming pool (Hauts-de-Seine) accommodate synchronized swimming training during the Olympic Games in the summer of 2024? This is, theoretically, what is planned. But “a plan B is already being considered”, with a relocation to Taverny, in Val-d’Oise, noted Senator Jean-Jacques Lozach (Socialist Party) by presenting, Wednesday, November 15, his report for opinion on the credits devoted to sport in the finance bill for 2024

Mr. Lozach pointed out, on this occasion, the ” points of attention “, which remain regarding the construction sites of the Olympic works. And, according to the senator, the ongoing renovation of the Colombes swimming pool, initiated in May 2022 with a view to the Games and supervised by the Olympic Works Delivery Company (Solideo), is one of them.

This project fell behind schedule, notably due to the discovery of asbestos and rusty ironwork, making it necessary to redo the fixings of the equipment structures. Delivery of the renovated swimming pool, which was initially scheduled to take place at the end of December 2023, should take place on June 1, 2024, with its availability to Paris 2024, the Games Organizing Committee (Cojop), being scheduled for June 26. less than a month before the start of the competitions.

“There is no reason for a plan B to be activated,” we argue at Colombes town hall. It is explained that, if “construction hazards required a modification of the phasing to be able to respect the city’s commitment” to welcome swimmers during the Games, “a partial delivery, so that the swimming pool is ready for the Olympic Games, has been validated by Solideo and Paris 2024”.

The existence of a “plan B” is nevertheless recognized by Solideo management. “In the execution of its missions, the DNA of Solideo has always been to develop a risk management and anticipation approach, which has led it to systematically identify, with Cojop and all parties stakeholders, possible plan Bs well upstream, before difficulties arisewe explain. This is particularly the case for the Colombes swimming pool”.

“Risk of a reserve lifting period that is too short”

If there is no “more structural risks” with this site and if the delivery schedule ” will be required “as assured by a player in the preparation of Paris 2024, a question justifies the existence of plan B: will the period between receipt of the work and handover be sufficient to have all the necessary insurance?
