  • Economist Patrizia Laeri went to court over a sexist article.

  • This decided in favor of Laeri.

  • Inside Paradeplatz has already adjusted its article.

  • The process is not finished yet.

Patrizia Laeri has successfully sued the finance blog “Inside Paradeplatz” (IP). As the district court in Meilen decided, the blog of the journalist Lukas Hässig has to delete passages with sexist remarks in an article on Laeri.

On the website of her start-up elleXX, Laeri announced on Wednesday morning: “We fought back – successfully.” However, the economist writes of a “partial success”. Because another procedure is pending at the commercial court. This should now decide whether the article should be completely deleted by IP. Several weeks could pass before the decision is made.

Finanzblog defuses article

IP has already adjusted the passages in the article of January 4th that Laeri complained about. The text was written by the freelance journalist Beni Frenkel. Lukas Hässig also comments on Laeri’s lawsuit in an article published on IP on Wednesday.

«The subject of the sued article was not Patrizia Laeri’s wife, but the performance of her first banking product. With this, the experienced business journalist is venturing into new realms – the financial sector, ”says Hässig.

Criticism of Laeri’s business model

In his original article, Beni Frenkel criticized the financial services of Laeri’s new platform elleXX, which offers women-specific financial services. The journalist Laeri called something like “the page 3 girl of financial journalism” or an old program of hers called a “woman’s fart”.

Laeri justified going before the court with the fact that the article on IP was “repeatedly sexist and in a misleading way damaging to business”. The intention of the journalist is clear: “The start-up should be harmed,” said the entrepreneur.

Author Frenkel said to 20 minutes before the court decision: “My text is not sexist.” He just wrote in a “different style of writing” and was sure to have “embellished something”. Some people like it, others don’t, so Frenkel.

The start-up elleXX wants to set a good example with its lawsuit against the finance blog Inside Paradeplatz. “It wants to encourage other women not to simply accept sexism and sexual harassment, but to put a stop to it and, if necessary, to prosecute it,” said a statement on Tuesday. Co-founder and lawyer Nadine Jürgensen writes: “We hope that we will use this to inspire other women to defend themselves against injustice instead of remaining silent.”
