RIP Tohru Okada, creator (notably) of one of the most iconic sounds in video game history.
He left us a few days ago at the age of 73 following a heart problem.
Iconic video game and TV sound
There are sounds that mark with a hot iron. And this is particularly the case in video games, where some are repeated in a loop. The one that interests us here, namely the “bing” of the logo of the first PlayStation console, is in the news today for a sad reason: its creator, Tohru Okada, has passed away.
Beyond this very short jingle used in advertisements for the Sony console for about 25 years, the musician has also participated in the music of advertisements for the saga Crash Bandicoot and animates it Mobile Suit SD Gundam. However, in Japan he was perhaps best known as a founding member and keyboardist of the rock band Moonriders.
