The year 2022 still has a lot of exciting restarts in store for series lovers. The biggest new series and series seasons at a glance.

The last two months of 2022 bring with them some notable and highly anticipated series reboots. One of the highlights of the rest of the year is the fifth season of the Royals series “The Crown”. Mystery fans are looking forward to the German Netflix original “1899”, the next series from the “Dark” makers, and things will get romantic at Christmas with the third installment of the fashion comedy series “Emily in Paris”. The biggest reboots at a glance.

Series highlights in November: “The Crown”, “1899” and “Wednesday”

After a break of exactly two years, the historical series “The Crown” about the British monarchy returns to Netflix on November 9 with the fifth season. As before season three, the main characters will be recast. Imelda Staunton (66) embodies Queen Elizabeth II (1926-2022) in the upcoming episodes, Elizabeth Debicki (32) plays Princess Diana (1961-1997) and Dominic West (53) slips into the skin of Prince Charles (73) , today’s King Charles III. The plot takes up events from the beginning to the mid-1990s – and thus a more than turbulent time for the British royals, which was particularly marked by the marital problems between Charles and Diana.

With the mystery series “1899”, the new show by “Dark” makers Jantje Friese (45) and Baran bo Odar (44) will start on Netflix on November 17th. Their new mystery story revolves around European emigrants who make a spooky discovery on board a steamboat in the middle of the Atlantic at the end of the 19th century. They come across an abandoned ship with only one survivor aboard. Afterwards, strange and disturbing incidents begin to pile up on the ocean liner…

“Wednesday” is the title of a new horror comedy series from horror director Tim Burton (“Sleepy Hollow”, 64). The focus of the story is the popular “Addams Family” character Wednesday Addams, played by Jenna Ortega (“Scream”, 20). As a teenager, Wednesday attends Nevermore Academy, a kind of high school for characters from the eerily weird world of the Addams Family. “Wednesday” will be released on Netflix on November 23.

Disney+ has “Willow” available to stream starting November 30th. Warwick Davis (52) once again plays the title character Willow Ufgood in the sequel to the 1988 cult fantasy film. The trailer promises fairytale fantasy entertainment for the whole family.

Series highlights in December: “Always there for you”, “Emily in Paris” and “The Witcher: Blood Origin”

The second season of the soulful drama series “Always there for you” will be released on Netflix on December 2nd. As in issue one, Katherine Heigl (43) and ex-“Scrubs” star Sarah Chalke (46) play best friends Tully and Kate. Unfortunately, Netflix announced in advance that season two will also be the last of the series. The final season includes 16 episodes, which are divided into two blocks of nine episodes each. Part two of season two will then appear in 2023.

After a long wait, the popular agent and thriller series “Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan” returns on Amazon Prime Video on December 21 with the third season. The previous issue was published in October 2019. Now, more than three years later, it’s finally moving on. Title character Jack Ryan (John Krasinski, 43) is involved in a conspiracy in the new episodes and is being hunted by his own CIA. In addition, a group of Russians want to restore the Soviet Union, as the trailer for the new episodes reveals. Season four has already been officially announced, but will remain the last of the series.

The popular romantic comedy series “Emily in Paris” with Lily Collins (33) as an American in Paris is also returning with the new third season shortly before Christmas. From December 21st, the main character Emily on Netflix not only has to make an important professional decision, but – as usual – is also spoiled for choice in love. Lucien Laviscount (30), who played Emily’s British love interest Alfie in season two, will be given a bigger role in the new episodes. Season four has already been confirmed. So “Emily in Paris” will continue.

The last big series start of the year should also provide some viewer interest on Netflix. On December 25, “The Witcher: Blood Origin” starts, a prequel series to “The Witcher” starring superstar Henry Cavill (39). “Blood Origin” takes place more than a thousand years before the events of the parent series. The mini-series will show the creation of the first witcher and the so-called conjunction of the spheres. A must for all “The Witcher” fans. Screen legend Michelle Yeoh (“Everything Everywhere All at Once”, 60) plays one of the main roles. Incidentally, the shooting of the eagerly awaited third season of “The Witcher” was completed in September. The new episodes will appear on Netflix in mid-2023.
