The day: Flash flood in Panama kills a family of eleven

A family of eleven was killed in the floods in Panama on Sunday. Nine of the dead are children, said civil defense chief Carlos Rumbo. So they had slept when their house was swept away by the flash floods. In the province of Veraguas, west of the capital Panama City, the Bejuco River had overflowed. Rescue workers were still looking for two missing people.

President Laurentino Cortiz expressed his condolences to the bereaved. Panama's civil protection warned of severe storms with thunderstorms and squalls in large parts of the Central American country on Sunday.
