From 2022, only the severely disabled will be exempt from the sales ban. They should continue to get their tickets from the train staff and then receive an invoice afterwards.

For everyone else, if you get on a long-distance train without a ticket from January 1, 2022, you have to dig deep into your pockets. According to the law, double the fare is due, but at least 60 euros.

In extreme cases, DB can charge twice the flex price for the entire train connection – at 250 to 300 euros, the increased transport fee can sometimes be double or triple as high as a previously purchased saver fare ticket with a specific train connection.
