The debate is revived on motorway concessions

DECRYPTION – Bruno Le Maire set fire to the powder by declaring that he wanted to “shorten the duration of the contracts by a few years”.

The subject is highly irritating. Are motorway companies posting excessive profitability, while toll rates increased by 4.75% on 1er last January? A report from the General Inspectorate of Finance (IGF) for 2021, produced at the request of the government and flushed out by the chained duckset fire to the powder.

This report suggests three avenues, starting with a shortening of the duration of the concession “up to ten years for ASF and APRR”. Second track: the reduction of tolls, which could have been “once and for all in 2022. It should be 58% for ASF-Escota and 59% for APRR-Area, which represents a saving of around €21 on a Marseille-Toulouse or Paris-Lyon journey.» Third track: “a levy on the gross operating surplus of 2021 until the end of the concessions”.

The government did not follow any, even if Bruno Le Maire, the Minister of the Economy, seized the Council of State to study the first track…
