As the weather changes, our skin needs also change in winter. The dry heating air and bitter cold leave their mark – dry patches and dehydrated skin can limit our well-being. To counteract this, the BRIGITTE editorial team shares their care tips and which skincare heroes have emerged over the years.
urea Many creams advertise it, but what is urea actually? The ingredient binds water and increases the moisture content of the skin. Urea also has a penetration-promoting effect. This allows water to be better stored in the barrier layer (= more moisture in the skin). It also regulates keratinization – the skin sebum can flow away better. This is desirable in the case of very severe calluses (e.g. on the feet or elbows), but only occurs with higher urea concentrations (from 10 percent). I really use urea all over my body in the winter, literally from feet to head – a true skincare hero!
