It’s finally official, General Motors has announced that an electrified version of the Chevrolet Corvette Z06 will be unveiled next year. A variation 100% electric would happen some time later.

This announcement, long awaited by fans and industry watchers now, comes with a few additional tidbits.

Electric versions and a new platform

General Motors President Mark Reuss posted a post on his LinkedIn account in which he officially announced that a hybrid Chevrolet Corvette Z06 will hit the market next year. It will be followed a few months (or years?) later by a fully electric version of the brand’s new, very sporty model. If fans should be relieved by the news, after years of rumors, it will however be necessary to be patient for more information, as Mark Reuss points out in his post.

The president of the General Motors group also took the opportunity to announce the arrival of the Ultium energy recovery system for these models, a patented system similar to what is done by competitors in terms of reusing energy in the vehicle. Thus, the system takes the heat generated by electric vehicle batteries and uses it to warm the cabin, improve charging efficiency and even increase vehicle acceleration. And it can boost car range by 10% “.

For the hybrid version of the Corvette Z06, it should be fine, but we can’t wait to discover the all-electric version and its performance, in particular its range.
