40 years later, DeLorean returns to the front of the stage with the Alpha5, an electric sports coupe. If it will not allow time travel, it will revive the flame of a forgotten builder.
DeLorean has finally released images of its first car in four decades: the electric Alpha5. Initially nicknamed EVolved, it was finally the name Alpha5 that was registered.
This new incarnation of the famous DMC-12 DeLorean carries over the iconic gullwing doors and rear window louvers, but the similarities end there. Indeed, if the original DMC-12 was driven by a rustic and gluttonous V6 PRV (Peugeot-Renault-Volvo), the future Alpha5 will introduce a 100% electric motorization. It will be necessary to wait until 9 p.m. (Pacific time, or 4 a.m. in France) to obtain the technical details. The manufacturer DeLorean Motor has already announced a 0 to 88 miles / h (0 to 140 km / h, in a nod to the legendary film Back to the future) shot down in 4.35 s.
This engine will be a priori powered by a 100 kWh battery for an announced theoretical autonomy of 480 km.
This new incarnation, designed in partnership with the design studio ItalDesign, gives pride of place to the curves as opposed to the DMC-12 which was distinguished, among other things, by its angular bodywork, typical of the 1980s. The drag coefficient of this new Alpha 5 is advertised for 0.23, thus favoring a claimed top speed of 250 km/h.
The photos released by the manufacturer show a minimalist cabin adorned with two screens: one placed behind the steering wheel for the on-board instrumentation; the other in the middle of the center console, providing management of the infotainment.
The Alpha5 is 2.99m long, 2.04m wide and 1.37m high, similar in size to the Porsche Taycan, the main competitor targeted by CEO Joost de Vries, instigator of the Roadster program. at Tesla. Unfortunately, the Divide is expected to be just as elite with an appeal price around $100,000.
We will update this article as soon as the night’s announcements are revealed.
