Fairphone offers its latest model, the Fairphone 4, in a Murena version adopting the /e/ operating system, which replaces the Android OS. It therefore follows the path taken before it by the Fairphone 3.
The mobile operating system /e/, an alternative to Google’s Android which we have been experimenting with for you for a whole summer, continues its path under the leadership of Frenchman Gaël Duval. It also offers smartphones under its recent Murena brand, the latest of which is none other than the Fairphone 4. The continuation of the partnership between the Dutch manufacturer and the foundation was confirmed at the presentation of the smartphone, since last fall.
The “fair” smartphone is in line with the Fairphone 3, itself available shortly after its release in an /e/ version. However, the additional cost is a little higher this year, €50 to be added to the price of the standard device, instead of the €30 increase applied to its predecessor. Again, it is on the /e/ store that the device is available, under the name of Fairphone 4 Murena (629 € in 6/128 GB version and 649 € in 8/256 GB).
The open source operating system, intended for “those who attach more importance to the protection of their personal data” under the terms of Fairphone, is freed from the services offered by Google. However, it is possible to install it manually on the Fairphone 4 without going through the Murena edition. The necessary information is available at this address.
