Fairphone opens the floodgates for its fifth generation smartphone

After the first image leaks last June, it was only a month later that the Fairphone 5 began to reveal its first secrets to us. But this time, the rumors are over. The Dutch company has just opened pre-orders for its brand new smartphone: the Fairphone 5. Let’s start with what makes one of the main strengths of the brand’s phones, namely their longevity when it comes to tracking and updates. Be aware that Fairphone promises up to 5 operating system updates after Android 13 and that the deployment of security patches is guaranteed until 2031.

The other characteristic element of Fairphones is obviously their great repairability. Thanks to the modular parts that power the Fairphone 5, users will be able to disassemble their smartphone at will in order to easily replace any element of their device, including the screen. The Fairphone 5 is therefore announced as the brand’s most durable to date. It has also been designed with more fair trade and recycled materials than usual (more than 70% of the parts that dress the Fairphone 5 come from fair trade or recycled materials).

Fairphone 5: specs, price and availability

The Fairphone 5 features a 6.46-inch vibrant OLED display and is powered by Qualcomm’s QCM6490 (Octa Core) chip. It has a dual 50 megapixel lens (compared to 48 megapixels on the previous model), an ultra wide-angle and a 50 megapixel front sensor. You will of course be able to capture what is happening around you in 4K/HDR. Finally, count on the presence of a 4,200 mAh battery, which can be recharged to 50% in just 20 minutes with a charger of at least 30 watts.

Now that you know (almost) everything about the Fairphone 5, let’s tackle the famous question of price and availability. The Fairphone 5 is priced at €699.00 in three different iterations, namely Matte Black, Sky Blue and Transparent Edition. If the device can already be pre-ordered on the official Fairphone website, the company nevertheless specifies that deliveries will only begin from September 14.
