Initially entrusted to Jon Watts (“Spider-Man Homecoming” and its sequels), the reboot of the “Fantastic 4” is today without a director. But it is rumored that Marvel is looking for a big name to replace him.
WARNING – The article below may contain some spoilers for “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness”. So please move on if you haven’t seen the Marvel movie yet and don’t want to know anything about it.
When will we see Fantastic 4 in theaters again? If it was more or less certain that the heroes would be back in 2023, it is more vague today. Just as the answer to the question “Thanks to whom ?”. In December 2020, Jon Watts was however announced as the director of the reboot, as he was about to complete his Spider-Man trilogy started with Homecoming. But he finally threw in the towel a few weeks ago.
The reason given was the director’s desire to take a break from superheroes, he who came from the independent circuit before Marvel Studios set his sights on him. But many thought the job was actually destined for a bigger name, after Sam Raimi’s reinforcement on Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. According Deadlinethis is only half true.
At present, the name of the lucky winner has not been found. And it could even take a little time, because the source interviewed by the media says that it would be surprising if this were the case before Labor Day, celebrated on the first Monday of September in the United States (therefore the 5th this year) . But, some renowned directors would be among the many candidates who would be in the running.
This does not mean that the project will be entrusted to one of them, because they still have to accept the job and the constraint of signing a film that is part of a shared universe planned years in advance. With action scenes that are sometimes in the preview phase of the special effects even before they arrive at the controllers.
But, according to Deadline’s source, “Kevin Feige doesn’t want to oversee the entire shoot after not having to worry about that with Sam Raimi, he would be inclined to do the same with this one.” Failing to inform us about the identity of the one who will bring together Mr. Fantastic, the Invisible Woman, the Torch and the Thing in the MCU, it gives some hope to see a film with a leg.
And while waiting to find out more, here are our 4 candidates for The Fantastic 4.
Sam Raimi – Continuity
Brad Bird – The safe bet
Edgar Wright – Reconciliation
John Krasinski – The Evidence
While the Jack Ryan series, of which he is the main actor, will end next year, and he will not be directing the third part of Without a Noise, the question will undoubtedly arise. And, failing to be considered a big name, John Krasinski has proven through his film and its sequel his ability to tell a family story with fantastic elements around. But he could also very well only be in front of the camera, if he decides to step back into the role.
