"the fear of dropping out of school is stronger than that of the Covid" for some parents

Since the start of the school year on Monday, November 2, more and more voices have been raised to denounce the inadequacy of the health protocol. Teachers, unions, and parents alike are worried. What if all this leads to a new closure of schools?

This return to school will have been very different in every way. On Monday November 2, the students began by observing a minute of silence in tribute to Samuel Patty, a history and geography teacher brutally murdered on October 16, then had to comply with a reinforced health protocol, including in particular the wearing of mask from 6 years old.

However, this is already debated. In recent days, images of corridors or dining halls of middle and high schools have been circulating on social networks, fueling the worst speculations. Are the children sufficiently protected? Is the health protocol put in place by National Education sufficient? From Monday and Tuesday, blockades took place in several high schools in France, in particular in Paris, Saint-Etienne, Saint-Nazaire, Toulouse, Nantes or even Besançon, in order to denounce the non-compliance with health measures.

Now it is the turn of teachers' unions to warn about the weakness of the health protocol in schools. For them, the measures taken do not sufficiently guarantee the safety of the students.

The fear of a new closure

The decision to close nurseries, schools, colleges and high schools last March caught everyone by surprise, starting with parents. While some have finally managed to organize themselves, others have particularly bitter, even traumatic memories.

According to Emmanuel Garot, from the federation of parents of students, La Peep, quoted by France Inter: "For parents, there is a dilemma between the fear of seeing children out of school or in any case, finding themselves facing a severely degraded education in view of the danger represented by the Covid. I would say that the fear of returning to school dropout is probably even stronger than the fear of the Covid itself. "

An appointment made Thursday afternoon

In order to agree on possible actions to be taken to get the government to react, all the teachers' unions, including the FCPE, must meet this Thursday afternoon. Snes, the majority union for secondary education, is already proposing to set a strike day next week in order to demand a strengthening of health measures in schools.
