The first masterpiece of 2024? This film based on a true story with the star of Reacher is thrilling audiences!

Based on a true story, this feature film directed by Hilary Swank and Alan Ritchson caused a sensation in the United States. Masterpiece in sight?

What if 2024 had already brought its little masterpiece and no one saw it coming? Released in theaters in the United States last weekend, Ordinary Angels took third place at the box office with a start of $6.5 million.

The beginnings of success?

This work, taken from real events, has surpassed behemoths like Madame Web, Migration or Argylle, which are showing declines. The site CinemaScore, which collects the opinions of the American public on the day a film is released, gives it an A+ rating. Only about 100 films have achieved this coveted score over the past 42 years.

However, this must be qualified by the fact that CinemaScore only collects public opinion in specific establishments. However, critics seem to agree with viewers’ opinions with 83% positive ratings on Rotten Tomatoes. On the public side, the score climbs to 99% with more than 500 notes already recorded.

Ordinary Angels is hosted by Hilary Swank, winner of two Oscars for Million Dollar Baby and Boys Don’t Cry. She plays opposite the star of the series Reacher, the colossus Alan Ritchson. The plot, based on a true story, takes us to 1994.

Based on a true story

Set against the backdrop of the worst snowstorm in Kentucky history, the story follows a struggling hairdresser who single-handedly brings an entire community together to help a widowed father save the life of his seriously ill young daughter.

Alan Ritchson

Ordinary Angels is directed by Jon Gunn (no relation to James, the director of Guardians of the Galaxy). The filmmaker is a specialist in the theme of Faith; we owe him in particular the biopic Jesus, the investigation, released in theaters in 2018.

We followed Lee Strobel, investigative journalist at the Chicago Tribune and avowed atheist. The latter finds himself confronted with his wife’s sudden conversion to Christianity. In order to save his couple, he begins to investigate the figure of Christ, with the ambition of proving that he was never resurrected.

While waiting for Ordinary Angels, whose French release date has not yet been announced, you can watch Jesus, the Investigation on Prime Video.
