The Flaming Lips: So the band can now perform in front of an audience

The rock band The Flaming Lips has an idea to be able to play concerts: They put their audience in plastic bubbles.

The singer of the rock band The Flaming Lips ("American Head"), Wayne Coyne (59), is known for rolling over the stage and the audience in a large plastic ball at his concerts. In times of Corona, the front man and his band had a special idea: Why not swap places and to be on the safe side, put the audience in the balls?

"It is certainly a bizarre situation"

"It sounds absurd, but (…) it's getting serious and real," Coyne explains to the music blog "BrooklynVegan". "We are slowly getting used to actually putting on a show that has three people in each bubble and we do maybe two shows a night and get a big audience every time." The first test runs have already been made, for example for the late night show by Stephen Colbert (56).

"It's certainly a bizarre situation," he explains. He is not suggesting that there should be a solution for the whole world. "I'm just saying that the Flaming Lips can give it a try and if you like our music, you can come and see us. You will just have to stand in one of these space bubbles, but maybe that's a good thing. Maybe this time it is something else."
