Released in our theaters on Wednesday June 14, “The Flash” is one of the last opuses of the DC universe developed in cinema since “Man of Steel”. While its ongoing redesign still raises several questions, can we expect a sequel to the film?

On December 20, if all goes well, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will put an end to the DC universe developed on the big screen since 2013 and the release of Man of Steel, which James Gunn and Peter Safran took over in order to a new version. The first titles of which will be released in 2025.
At the time of the shared universe king, where what announces the post-generic scene sometimes arouses more enthusiasm than the film itself, this vague future can be a problem for which Shazam 2 has paid the price at the box. -office. But the case of The Flash is different. Because, inspired by the comic book “Flashpoint” which had allowed the reboot of the publisher’s publications in 2011, the film can help Warner and DC Studios to do the same.

In Andy Muschietti’s film, Barry Allen goes back in time to change the past and save his mother. Without suspecting for a moment the consequences that this will have on the present, where he finds himself faced with a double of himself and a Batman with the features of Michael Keaton and not those of Ben Affleck. A story of temporal paradoxes that can allow James Gunn and Peter Safran to keep some elements and erase others, instead of carrying out a radical reboot.
If we suspect that the box office will have a say in the case, Flash could thus be one of the survivors and things would be well advanced: variety claims that a sequel script has already been written, and that it will notably see the returns of Michael Keaton (Batman) and Sasha Calle (Supergirl). And Ezra Miller, whose dangerous attitude and legal setbacks almost got the better of the project?
“If there is a sequel, yes”says director Andy Muschietti. “I don’t think anyone can play the character as well as they did. The other versions of the character are great, but they excelled in that particular vision.” Here too, the box office may have its impact, and the project is currently cool according to Variety.

We will probably have to wait a few weeks or months (until San Diego Comic-Con at the end of July?) to find out more. But in the meantime, who would be the ideal villain for a sequel? We put the question to Andy Muschietti, who incidentally returned it to us. To which we replied that Zoom, seen in season 2 of the Flash series, would be ideal. And not only because the interview took place in video, thanks to the application of the same name.
But the director obviously has another idea in mind. And it makes perfect sense: “Nora Allen’s Murderer is surrounded by such a question mark that no matter what the sequel is, presenting the Reverse-Flash will be inevitable for us. But I’m leaning on absolutely nothing in saying this, it’s It’s just speculation as to what it might be.”

The Reverse-Flash in comic books
Real name Eobard Thawne, the Reverse-Flash lives in the 22nd century, and his obsession for the fastest man in the world will lead him to obtain the same powers and go back in time. But also to kill Barry’s mother in the events told “Flashpoint”. This reinforces his status as the hero’s sworn enemy.
Will we learn more about Barry’s tragic past and the reasons for his mother’s murder? With this team or another? Hopefully the answers will come sooner than the feature film currently in theaters, first announced in October 2014.
